Steve is our course pro/manager here at Elizabethton Golf
Course. Steve brings a variety of experiences to the table
that has helped EGC become the most exciting golf course in
the area.
Steve's background in golf is in a word impressive. Steve
spent a good deal of his career at Louisburg College, where
he coached golf and worked as a math professor. He then spent
three years as the assistant business manager of the university.
This golf/business background makes Steve the perfect component
on our staff here at EGC.
In addition to his love of the game, and his business background,
Steve has also served as a course superintendent. This additional
experience helps Steve to understand course maintenance and
better conduct the golf course as a whole.
Steve's day-to-day duties require him to wear many hats. In
addition to his responsibilities as the course pro, Steve
has a variety of other managerial and tutorial tasks that
he is required to perform.
As the pro, Steve gives lessons to all types of players and
is expected to be very knowledgeable about the course. He
is required to oversee the groundskeeping and make certain
that the course is kept in top shape.
On the business side, Steve handles all of our financial and
planning aspects. Payroll, pro-shop sales, and all other management
functions are all just a part of Steve1s responsibilities.
The board of directors is very confident in Howard's abilities,
and Steve works hard to keep the board well-informed on the
daily activities at the course.
Despite the workload, Steve still has time to enjoy the game
of golf and the course which he works hard to manage."With
all the public golf courses in our price range, we present
a good product,"Howard says. "Challenging for the
top players yet enjoyable for the high handicapper."
If you wish to speak to Steve about lessons, or have questions
about the course, you can reach him at the pro shop during
regular business hours at (423) 542-8051.
